The six gentlemen inspire their talented solos and they present a program of instrumental inspirations and special tunes of the golden swing era; which have been newly arranged by the bandleader, Joe Wulf. Programs Joe Wulf plays Louis Armstrong After the birthday of Louis Armstrong was celebrated in the year 2000 everywhere – one year to early – Joe Wulf & The Gentlemen Of Swing are now presenting their own, very personal program, to honor this unforgettable master of the trumpet. The six top-class musicians play a fascinating compilation of famous Armstrong-classics like „What A Wonderful World“ and „Hello Dolly“ and less known, but just as beautiful titles like „Cakewalking Babies From Home“ and „Mahagony Hall Stomp“ – the enthusiastic audience will indulge in reminiscences of this unique trumpet-player. The Gentlemen Of Swing | The Performers Anselm Marx | Trumpet | Vocals Anselm Marx is one of the most interesting musicians of the „New Generation”. His unbelievable swinging style is based on the distinctive manner of old masters such as Louis Armstrong, Roy Eldridge and Joe Newman. Anselm Marx is very much in demand as a soloist and he has been associated with renowned musicians like Elvin Queen (USA), Eric Lelan (F) and Bill Dobbins (USA). His tours lead him through Italy, Russia, France, the United States, West and Central Africa. Joe Wulf met with him in 2006 and integrated him into The Gentlemen Of Swing. Christian Schmidt | Clarinet | Tenorsaxophon | Sopranosaxophon Christian Schmidt, reeds enrolled in 1995 in the Conservatory of Cologne in order to score and adapt musical compositions. Christian directed different formations of his own, for whom he created arrangements and compositions. The sensible and highly qualified musician has been on stage with Rod Mason, Peter Herbolzheimer, „Max Raabe and his Berliner Palastorchester“. Since 2007 Christian Schmidt is a member of the Joe Wulf sextet and he contributes with his talent to the typical sound of Joe Wulf & The Gentlemen Of Swing. Ron Cherian | Piano Ron Cherian (IND) belongs to the newcomers of the international scene. His classical musical education is the foundation for his distinctive technique and virtuosity. This popular, highly qualified and competent pianist is very much in demand. He worked, among others, very successfully with Bill Dobbins, Lorenzo Petrocca, Roy Williams, Jimmy Woode and Oscar Klein. Ron Cherian is a desirable studio musician and he can be heard on numerous CD productions with George Masso and Dan Barrett. One of his great idols is the worldwide known stride-pianist Ralph Sutton. Ron Cherian joined the Gentlemen Of Swing in the year 2005. Bert Thompson | Bass Bert Thompson (USA) played his way up to the top of the world jazz bass players while being an „on the road” companion to Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie and Dexter Gordon. This native New Yorker, with his bass, his smoothness and precision forms the relaxed and powerful foundation for the swinging Joe Wulf formation. His distinctive bass solos are original and they impress by their striking interpretations. Bert Thompson is a permanent member of the band since 1995. Bernard Flegar | Drums Bernard Flegar (HR), with a solid reputation as a drummer, is a native of Croatia. His matchless ability is fresh and inventive and projects him to be a prominent element of the international jazz-swing groupings. As a student of the drummer-legend Barrett Deems his timing and his dynamic are incomparable and his solos are breathtaking. The career of this exceptional musician allowed him to travel world wide. This musical performer has been with the Joe Wulf band since 1992. |
